clovis_Rio carnival_mar0019.jpg
Street carnival, Clovis or bate bola at Rio de Janeiro train station, Brazil - Clovis is a fantasy carnival characteristic of suburban areas of Rio de Janeiro. The tradition was brought by the Portuguese, and it is assumed that the name has derived from the English "clown", and that would have been created in the early twentieth century, from the popular interpretation of the term by which scholars have termed the revelers.
