Clovis Rio de Janeiro carnival_rd0036.jpg

Clovis or bate bola at Favela do Muquiço, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - Clovis is a fantasy carnival characteristic of suburban areas of Rio de Janeiro. The tradition was brought by the Portuguese, and it is assumed that the name has derived from the English "clown", and that would have been created in the early twentieth century, from the popular interpretation of the term by which scholars have termed the revelers.
