"Deliver me from all evil, amen" is tattoed on the back of a gay man having fun with his partner at "Simpatia e quase amor" (Sympathy is almost like love), a Rio de Janeiro carnival block founded in 1984 in Ipanema, on the celebration of its 40th anniversary. Brazil is reported to have the highest LGBT murder rate in the world. Carnival blocks are street bands that mobilize crowds on the streets and are one of the main popular expression of Brazilian Carnival.
