Samba School drumming wing, drumming section or "bateria", a kind of orchestra of percussion instruments ( pandeiro in photo ) that accompany the singer and lead the pace of the samba schools parade in carnival. The Pandeiro is a type of hand frame drum popular in Brazil, and which has been described as an unofficial instrument of that nation. The drumhead is tunable, and the rim holds metal jingles ( platinelas ).
