The pirarucu, also known as arapaima or paiche ( Arapaima gigas ) is a South American tropical freshwater fish, it is a living fossil and one of the largest freshwater fishes in the world. The IUCN red list ranks the Amazonian manatee as vulnerable. Population declines are primarily a result of hunting, as well as calf mortality, climate change, and habitat loss.
