Eudocimus ruber_LT0716.jpg
The scarlet ibis, also called red ibis, (Eudocimus ruber), known in Brazil as guara or guara-vermelho, is a species of bird that inhabits tropical South America and part of the Caribbean. The plumage is a very strong red color, due to its diet based on a crab that has a large amount of beta-carotene, thus being responsible for the dyeing of the plumes. Its Tupi–Guarani name, guara, is part of the name of several municipalities along the coast of Brazil. Maranhao State, Brazil.
