Outdoor recreation, man exercising among palm trees in Flamengo park, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil - also known as Aterro do Flamengo, the Brigadeiro Eduardo Gomes Park is the largest leisure area of Rio de Janeiro - the place has a strong sport tradition, sitting by the margins of Guanabara Bay. Flamengo Park was conceived and constructed by architect Lota de Macedo Soares, with gardens designed by world-known landscapist Burle Marx. During the 2016 Summer Olympics, the park will serve as host to athletics, and road cycling events. During the 2016 Summer Paralympics, the park will serve as host to track and field, marathon and road cycling events.
